FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who accredits your massage school?
The Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA). This organization has been recognized by the US Department of Education for their work with massage therapy schools to ensure that their educational standards demonstrate quality, performance and integrity of higher learning. We are the only school in the Tidewater area accredited by this agency and the first school in Virginia to receive this accreditation.
Why is this important?
Accreditation is a voluntary process that identifies and acknowledges educational programs and/or institutions for achieving and maintaining a level of quality, performance and integrity that meets meaningful standards within the massage industry. The review process for accreditation is comprehensive and includes all facets of the massage school: administrative practices, curriculum, student affairs, faculty competence and relationship with employers of graduates. An accredited school is one that meets these standards of excellence. The Cayce/Reilly School has held COMTA accreditation since 1996. The staff and faculty are proud of this achievement and work diligently to maintain these standards of excellence. COMTA is an organization that is highly respected within the massage industry and graduating from a COMTA-accredited school is an added advantage as you make your way into practice.
What are the qualifications of your massage instructors?
Almost all of our massage instructors are licensedmassage therapists and all , bring a wealth of information to the classroom. For example, we have chiropractors and formally educated science teachers in anatomy, and a certified reflexologist instructing reflexology. Our assistant instructors must be in the profession for at least two years prior to being hired in our school and they must be licensed to practice as a massage therapist in Virginia.
What are your massage class ratios?
Most classes have a student/instructor ratio of 24:2. We like to keep our classes small and only accept 24-30 students per each class.
What is the student completion rate of your classes?
Almost 95% of our students who begin our program complete their classes and go on to graduate.
How do you assist in job placement?
Graduates of the Cayce/Reilly School are highly sought after by employers. This competitive edge allows us to maintain an up-to-date database of job opportunities. As you approach graduation, it is to your advantage to utilize this benefit. Also, as an alumni you will be emailed with the most recent additions to the job opportunity database.
What if I want to practice massage outside Virginia?
Our program is nationally known and respected. Some states require a different number of hours than Virginia in order to be licensed in that state. Please follow these links to data gathered by the two national massage therapy organizations to learn more about other state's requirements:
Can you give total of all costs to attend your school?
We are open and honest about all costs incurred to students enrolled in our program. There are no hidden costs or unwanted "surprises." Total tuition and fees for the Cayce/Reilly School is $10,900.
Can you send me information on your programs without an initial visit?
As a prospective massage student, we want you to be as informed as possible about our school and, therefore, we do not require that you visit the school before we will send you information. When you call to request one of our catalogs, it is usually mailed to you within 24 hours. After you have reviewed the material, if you would like to visit the school, we encourage you to do so. One of the advantages of being a smaller school is we have the time to sit and answer all your questions, in a non-pressured atmosphere, so that you are better able to make an informed decision.
